Independence Day

Published July 3, 2017

On July 4, 2017 our country celebrates its 241st birthday. Many individuals have sacrificed their lives over those 241 years to protect the freedom and independence we enjoy. Today, there are still others who are risking and giving their lives to continue what began 241 years ago. As we celebrate the birthday of the USA, let’s not forget those who fight and have fought to protect us. From the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 to those who are on the field today. We give thanks to them! We also need to stop and […]

Christmas Has Been Cancelled

Published December 16, 2016

I am afraid I’ve got some bad news? I heard today that Christmas has been cancelled this year. We are being told to take down our trees and decorations. We have to return any presents we have already bought. And Santa is not going to come this year. Christmas has been cancelled. How does that make you feel? It makes me sad because I love to get presents. I also like to look at all the Christmas decorations. What are we going to do now that Christmas has been cancelled? Ok, so maybe Christmas is not going to be cancelled […]

90 Years and Growing Strong

Published October 25, 2016

What a great weekend we had on October 15th and 16th. Ira First Church of God celebrated their 90th Anniversary as a congregation of the Church of God Reformation Movement. We saw several familiar faces from past years and some new faces to go along with the “regulars”. It was a great privilege to have former pastor, June Downing with us this weekend as she shared some stories of her time in Ira and then brought us God’s message on Sunday morning. This congregation in the small community of Ira, Texas began as a dream of one family, John and […]

He Is Risen

Published March 30, 2016

Easter has come and gone, at least the day we celebrate Easter has gone for another year. But we can rejoice that Easter is alive and well everyday of the year because He is Risen. You notice I didn’t say He was risen but He is risen. There is a big difference in the two. When we say He was risen we are saying that Jesus was risen before but that he is not risen today. When we say he is risen then we are saying that he rose on that first Easter and that he is still risen today. […]

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Published January 3, 2016

It is hard to believe that 2016 is already here. I am not sure where 2015 went, I just know it went by fast! If this year whizzes by as fast as last year then we better prepare ourselves for what this year holds and take advantage of every opportunity we have to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Just as we anticipated the “disasters” that people were expecting in the year 2000, we need to be just as aware in 2016 for a drastic change – the second coming of Jesus Christ. No, I do not know when […]

Christmas Perspective

Published December 3, 2015

As a child I couldn’t wait until my birthday. Some reasons I couldn’t wait was because I was going to be a year older, but the main reason was that I was going to get lots of presents. I loved presents – well, I still love presents. As I’ve gotten older birthday’s aren’t as exciting as they used to be because I am getting a year older. It is kind of funny how our perspective changes the older we get. The same thing happens with Christmas. As a child we anticipate the presents we are going to receive and then […]

Family Movie Service

Published July 21, 2015

I received an e-mail the other day inviting me to join a new subscription based movie service. I almost just deleted it without reading it, but something caught my eye that made me read a little more. It said, Enjoy Faith & Family Movies, TV Shows and Educational Programs. Anytime, Anywhere! There was also a video introducing “Pure Flix”. The subscription price is $7.99 per month for unlimited viewing of over 2000 faith and family movies. They are also offering a 30-day free trial so I thought I would try it out. It has been wonderful. It is refreshing to […]

Thankful For Two Keys

Published November 26, 2014

Although we should give thanks everyday, Thanksgiving is when we really stop and count our blessings. As I think about some of the things I am thankful for there is the usual: family, friends, church, job, and of course salvation. But today I am reminded of something else I am truly thankful for. I am thankful for two keys. I know that sounds kind of strange, but if it were not for two keys I would have had to spend a lot of money over the last few months. Let me explain. Sometimes I need to use the car and […]

Maybe I Lied

Published November 12, 2014

Ok, for all those who remember what I said a few months ago when it was so hot I could hardly stand it. You know those words, “I can’t wait until winter!”? Well, maybe I lied or at least lost my common sense for a minute. It is so cold today that I was even wishing for summer to hurry and get here. Now I know that most of you are saying, “Winter hasn’t even arrived yet.” I know that this is only the first cold spell of the season, but I keep hearing everyone say this is going to […]

Thoughts About Time Change

Published November 5, 2014

Well, they did it again. Just when I was getting used to the time they go and change it. And I am not even sure who “they” is. I will admit I loved the change that first day because it gave me an extra hour of sleep, but by the time I got into the pulpit on Sunday morning at 11:00 am my tummy thought it was 12:00 and it began to growl. It was growling because, as you can tell when you look at me, I don’t miss many meals and my body thought it was time to eat. […]
